Spanair joined the Star Alliance in 2003 and is based on the Mediterranean island of Palma de Mallorca. Commencing operations in 1988, Spanair has grown to become Spain's second largest carrier. With a fleet of 63 aircraft Spanair covers not only Spain it also flies to Germany, Scandinavia, Austria and Portugal.
